The NetHack Home Page

Spoilers

If you would like to play the game without being spoiled, you should not read any of the files below. See the section on tips for beginners first.

This page details the spoilers for older versions of NetHack. For spoilers for the latest version of NetHack, click here.

Spoilers for version 3.0

Spoilers for version 3.1

A lot of spoilers are available in plain ASCII format. These are all spoilers for NetHack 3.1.3 (again, not for version 3.3.0)! They are normally more accurate than the WCST 7.00 spoilers, but they have not yet been checked for version 3.3.0. Generally, they are correct for that version as well, though. If you want all files mentioned below, you should get the files ALLSPOIL.ZIP (199 kByte, an archive that contains all the 3.1.3 spoiler files mentioned below), and spoilers.700 (304 kByte, it contains the WCST 7.00 spoilers for version 3.0). If you don't want all spoilers, pick the ones you do want from the list below.

Next to these files with topical information, there are some files which contain the drafts of the 8.00 version of the infamous WCST spoilers. There are five such spoiler files ( file 1, file 2, file 3, file 4, and file 5), as well as some informational letters ( letter 2, letter 3, letter 4, and letter 5). These files were written for version 3.1, but have never been finished.

Here are the spoilers:

Next to these ASCII files, I can also offer you some files in PostScript or WordPerfect format. The following subjects are currently available (all are compressed with gzip and were originally written for NetHack version 3.1.3):

Spoilers for version 3.2

I have collected only few spoilers for 3.2. I currently have only one spoiler file available, namely one on the new skill system.

Spoilers for version 3.2.3

The 3.1.3 spoilers have been re-written to suit the 3.2.3 version of the game. This version was released at the same time as 3.3.0, but is just a Y2K-compliant version of 3.2.2.  Click here for a zipped archive of the 3.2.3 spoilers (323 kByte).

Spoilers for version 3.3.0

The spoilers are available in the original text format (ASCII), and were edited by Dylan O'Donell, most of them after a version 3.2 original by Kevin Hugo. They have been converted to web pages by Payne Simpson (most of them, thanks!) or yours truly (Boudewijn Waijers).

There have been other people that made some spoilers, and have published them in the newsgroup, rec.games.roguelike.nethack. These spoilers are on the following subects:

For a zipped archive of all the spoilers for version 3.3.0, please click here. Html files are not included.

For a combination of spoilers and housekeeping, you may want to download the following files, which contain sheets you can use to write down where you find certain levels in your dungeon, and what intrinsics you've gained. Ideal if you are playing several characters at the same time and start confusing them...

Spoilers for version 3.3.1

Look at the latest news page for spoilers for the current version, 3.3.1. They will be added as they appear.

General remarks

If you haven't yet found the spoilers you're looking for, try the NetHack spoilers directory at the tue spoiler site (ftp.win.tue.nl). Also, there are various alternative NetHack Home Pages available.

Hisashi, Akira, and Osamu have translated all spoilers to Japanese. By the way, their site is also a mirror site of this spoiler site.

If nothing else helps, there is a very active newsgroup where NetHack is discussed: rec.games.roguelike.nethack. A warning in advance: if you start reading this group, you will encounter lots of spoilers. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to subscribe and ask the group, but look in the spoilers first, please. Suggestions for improvements or bug reports are also welcome: the newsgroup is read by the NetHack Development Team as well.
