The Rogue Home Page
This is the home page for Rogue, the mother of all Roguelike
games. I'm glad I finally found a working copy of the game, so
I could at last include the game of games on this page. Yes! This
is the game that started it all...
If you are interested in the history of Rogue, you might want to
have a look at the Rogue History Page,
edited by Glenn Wichman, one of the original authours of Rogue.
Currently, the things you will find here are:
- The Rogue 98.5 sources for Linux
(97 kBytes). Supposedly also works on BSD Unix 4.2 or 4.3, but I
didn't try this out.
- A Rogue 5.3 clone (sources) for Linux
(173 kBytes). Should work on BSD Unix 4.2 or 4.3. Officially
LinuxRogue 0.1 (Rogue 5.3 Clone Pl2), platforms Linux 0.95 or
better, Linux-Lite. Also contains a pre-compiled version for
Linux. Phil Noyes sent me a short note
with hints about how to compile linux rogue on a HP9000 system.
- A Rogue executable for the Amiga (129
kBytes). There is also a readme
file available.
- The Rogue executable for Msdos (only
50 kBytes).
- The Rogue executable for the Macintosh
(774 kBytes). This is a graphical version, somewhat slow. It
seems that not all the monsters in Rogue were put in. A slightly
different game, but still interesting.
- The spoilers
for a UNIX version of Rogue.
- Spoilers
for an MsDos version of Rogue.
- A while ago, someone wrote Rog-O-Matic: a
Belligerent Expert System. Rog-O-Matic actually plays rogue for
you (albeit only on a certain operating system). Rog-O-Matic was
written in C, and the sources are available. The Rog-O-Matic source
(version 1.4) is a 189 kByte tar.Z file, and the rogue version
for which it was written (version 3.6) is a 104 kByte tar.Z file.
The Rog-O-Matic source was written for unix, and should run on a
NeXT, a Sun, and Vaxes. The rogue code mentioned above is a unix
version (the original) of Rogue.
